Stros City Connect 2.0

This second iteration of the Houston Astros Nike City Connect needed to be elevated and quite literally out of this world.

Our design team worked with Nike over a year prior to launch on the uniform design. Myself and the manager of video began the process of coming up with how we’d execute the large production of shooting with our players while blending practical and motion graphic elements on our own version of Mars.

I helped lead countless meetings with the internal photo, video, design and vendor teams months before shoot days that allowed for seamless execution when players stepped foot into the space. We only had about ten minutes with each player to capture enough photo and video assets to last for the entirety of the three year jersey campaign. That meant clear communication between photo and video teams and everyone assisting along the way.

Leading up to the launch it’s crucial to think about all the stakeholders involved. Everyone from the mascot team, to the promotions team and most importantly the retail team that will drive millions of dollars to the organization if successful. I also coordinated the location, models, and overall planning for the very successful retail launch of the City Connect product.

The success came from collaboration, planning and never settling. I couldn’t be more proud of the entire team coming together to make this launch one of the best in the MLB. Nearly all of the output is done with the very lean internal team of the Houston Astros and it is a testament to the group and leaders within.
